Dimitris Germanos was born in Thessaloniki. He received his first degree in Architecture from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) in Greece and continued his academic research in Paris, studying Arts Plastiques et Sciences de l’Art in Sorbonne, Université de Paris 1, and Psychologie Sociale de l’Éducation at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), where he received his doctoral degree. He is specialized in the human-centered dimension of space and specifically in the relation it has with the educational change. The main fields of his research activity are: the relationship of space with a child’s learning and development processes, as well as with the upgrade of the educational process. Furthermore, he has been actively involved with the design of school environments that adapt to the application of the collaborative method of teaching and learning. His applied research work includes spatial interventions for the redesign of 83 existing school buildings, up to this date, in Greece and Cyprus. The evaluation and the research utilisation of those interventions lead him to the development of the «Pedagogical Space Re-design» method (PSR method) for the redesign of a school environment with pedagogical, psychosocial and architectural criteria. In 1989 he became a faculty member at the School of Early Childhood Education at AUTh. Currently he is a Professor at the same School where he also served in various administrative positions, including the Chair position during 2006-09. Since 2013 he has been directing the School’s Research Policy Committee. He is the author of two books and a series of articles in various topics within his expertise.
